How to make an emoji favicon

  1. Pick an emoji — type or paste any emoji (skin tones and combined emoji like 👨‍💻 work), or choose from the quick picks.
  2. Style it — add a background colour or keep it transparent, adjust padding and corner radius.
  3. Download — you get favicon.ico, PNG icons for iOS/Android/PWA, an SVG favicon and the HTML snippet, zipped.

Emoji favicons without the hack

The well-known one-line trick embeds an emoji in an inline SVG data URI. It's clever, but it only covers modern browsers — no favicon.ico for Google Search, no apple-touch-icon for iOS home screens, and no PWA icons. This generator renders the emoji into every required file, so the emoji shows up in search results and on home screens too.

How do I use an emoji as a favicon?

Type or pick any emoji in the generator above and click Download. You get a favicon.ico, PNG app icons and an SVG favicon rendered from the emoji, with the HTML link tags ready to paste into your site's <head>.

Will an emoji favicon look the same on every device?

The ICO and PNG files in the bundle are rendered from your operating system's emoji font when you generate them, so they look identical everywhere. The optional SVG favicon uses a text glyph, which renders in each visitor's own emoji style.

Can I legally use an emoji as my website's favicon?

Generally yes for websites: emoji artwork is owned by platform vendors (Apple, Google, Twitter), and rendering an emoji in a favicon falls within normal font usage on those platforms. If you want to be conservative, generate on a device using an open-licensed set such as Noto Emoji (Google) or Twemoji.

Can I combine an emoji with a background colour?

Yes. Pick any background colour (or transparent), add padding, and round the corners — the live previews show the result in a browser tab, Google search results and on home screens before you download.
